One of the most exciting, yet stressful, parts about planning your wedding day is dress shopping! You'll know when you've found the perfect dress when you get that magical feeling, as most brides describe it. It looks, feels, and is perfect! There are some things that should be done when shopping, and there are also some do not's!
Here is what to do, and what not to do, when shopping for your perfect wedding dress.
The Do's!
1. Set a Budget
Wedding dress can tend to cost upwards of $10,000 (for the fanciest) but tend to be anywhere below $5,000. When trying on dresses, keep your budget in mind so that you aren't as likely to fall in love with one that is way out of your price range. Most salons require a 50% nonrefundable deposit, so make sure that you are completely in love with the dress that you choose!
2. Have an Idea of What You Want
Many brides know exactly what kind of dress they want before even getting engaged! Some girls start planning their wedding when they're little, and the wedding dress is one of the most important parts! When going shopping, try to bring in pictures of the style you want. From Pinterest, magazines, the internet, etc, you can find so many different styles. If you aren't sure what kind of dress or style you're looking for, try one one fit-and-flare, one ballgown, and one A-line dress to see which one you are most comfortable in, as well as which one you think looks best.
3. Bring People Your Trust
It can be hard choosing a dress because they all look so beautiful. Bring a few people that will be honest with you, as well as keep you grounded. They will help keep your wants and needs in mind, as well as your big day. A bride can get lost in the moment with all of the gorgeous dresses that they are trying on, so a small group of loved ones can help keep you centered. Too many people can lead to a lot of different opinions and ideas, so try and keep your group small.
4. Wear Your Fancy Bra
Who would have thought that there was such a thing as a "fancy bra"? Well there is when it comes to your big day! Knowing that you have on your wedding day bra will make the feeling even more real. This will also help you see what your dress will actually look like with your undergarments on. It also is nice to admire in between fittings.
5. Use a Credit Card for the Deposit
When making the deposit to order your dress, we recommend using a credit card. If the dress is not delivered or there are problems with it, the bank that issued you the card can be contacted to set up a refund.
6. Start Shopping Early!
It could take anywhere up to 9 months for your dress to be ordered and have the alterations done, so get a head start on shopping! This will give you plenty of time to look around, try a few on, and order the dress of your dreams!
The Do Not's!
1. Don't Bring Kids
Bringing kids can take your attention away from finding the perfect dress. Take this time to enjoy yourself and think about your special day!
2. Don't Rush Into Great Deals!
Just because the store offered a free headpiece or petticoat, doesn't mean that the price is actually reduced. Do some looking around and see the prices on the "free" items, as well as the cost of the dress. Sometimes going cheaper isn't always better!
3. Dress and Accessory Sales are Usually Final
Don't forget! It may be a little intimidating, but this will keep you in check to make sure that you get exactly what you want! Stay serious, keep an open mind, and have fun.
Good thing there are more do's than do not's! The most important thing to keep in mind while wedding dress shopping, is that you should have fun, because you may never have this experience again!
